Chauke (47) passed away on Saturday, 11 January 2025, in Cape Town.
Family representative Kutlwano Chauke said they knew Prince the longest.
“We will mourn Prince for the rest of our lives. Prince lived his life. In 47 years, he achieved what many men don’t,” said Kutlwano.
He said Prince had three wonderful kids.

“We say go well, abuti. You will go down as the greatest Chauke ever in our family. He showed us how to be a big brother, how to be a malome, and how to be a son,” he said.

— Aaron Dube (@AronDube) January 18, 2025His aunt, Esther Mohale, speaking on behalf of Prince’s mum, Winnie Chauke, said: “You promised to come home in January, and I didn’t know you would come this way. We learned the hard way. It’s painful that you’re not with us. The pain is unbearable. I feel hopeless and empty, but as a woman of prayer, I pray that God gives me strength. Rest in peace, my son, and look upon us.”
Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, said: “Prince knew people. Thank you, Mama Winnie, for the life of Prince. The painful thing was when the parlour came, saying where the body was. I’m very aggrieved. Go well, Prince.”

Former colleague and SANEF Executive Director, Reggy Moalusi, said: “We keep on thanking Mama Winnie for giving us a son. We grew to be colleagues. He became like family to me. He is a guy we will miss. We are grateful, Mama, that you lent us your son.”

Media Personality Tbo Touch said: “I have known Prince since 2005. Prince would find a way to order expensive things, including clothes. The type of our relationship was toxic and forgiving. Rest in peace, my brother. You have been a true friend. I’m wounded standing here.”

Masixole Alex Nyiki, a friend, said: “Prince was a very loyal person and was very close to him. Prince was able to assist everyone. Rest in peace, my brother, I didn’t expect this.”
Daily Sun deputy editor Doreen Molefe said: “Prince used to say, ‘you’re as good as your last byline as a writer.’ It doesn’t matter what you wrote yesterday or last week. You must write something new that is good and better than before. As someone who worked with him, I’m happy that I was able to learn such things.”

Johanna Makamo, elder of the Leseding Lutheran Church in Mamelodi West, said Prince was a church member, and his mum is a woman of prayer.
Prince is survived by his mother, Winnie, his brothers Khutso and Reabetswe, and his three children, Thato, Lethabo, and Olwethu.
