A MAN in Westbury, Joburg is furious and needs answers after the death of 32-year-old Miriam Singh and her unborn baby.
Miriam allegedly went to the Westbury Clinic in labour on Sunday, 29 December, but neither she nor her baby survived.
Miriam’s boyfriend, Christopher Goliath (32), said they arrived at the clinic shortly after 7am, and everything seemed normal.
“We were filled with joy, looking forward to leaving the facility with our baby,” he said.
However, the day took a devastating turn.
Goliath explained that they walked to the clinic when they realised Miriam was in labour, as it was conveniently close to their home. Upon their arrival, Goliath was not allowed entry by security personnel.
“I had to speak to her through the clinic’s window,” he said.
Miriam appeared cheerful and even expressed her hunger, asking Goliath to buy her some food from a nearby store.
He left to get her food but when he returned about 20 minutes later, he was met with tragic news – his girlfriend had died.

“I was in disbelief. I demanded answers, but no one seemed willing to respond,” Goliath said, sharing his heartache.
He said the nurses informed him that they had administered an injection to induce contractions.
“Why would they induce pain when she was already in labour?”
Goliath is desperate for answers, insisting that the clinic must explain what transpired and what led to his beloved’s death. “I’m left in the dark, and I need to know what happened,” he said.
The Gauteng Department of Health spokesman, Motalatale Modiba, has taken note of the matter. “It has now been handed over to Quality Assurance to investigate further, establish facts, and recommend if any further steps need to be taken.
“In the meantime, necessary tests such as postmortems are being done so as to not delay the family in terms of their other processes,” he said.
Modiba said that senior officials from the districts have been assigned to handle the situation. Police spokeswoman Dimakatso Nevhuhwili said an inquest docket has been opened for further investigation and the cause of death is unknown, pending postmortem results.
