“In the Tshepisong roadblock we managed to retrieve a replica firearm and found a vehicle (minibus) with an engine that has been tampered with,” he said.
He said the police’s aim is also to look for hijacked or stolen vehicles to make the community feel safe.
He emphasised that those who will be traveling during the festive season need to check the safety of their vehicles at all times.
“This is creating a problem in terms of road accidents and road fatalities. It’s also advisable that before people leave their place of residence, they alert their neighbours.
“Those who can afford must make sure their houses are armed in terms of alarms, they should link up to their security companies to avoid their houses being broken into,” he said.
Mthombeni said the police are on the ground and operationally ready with all the workforce for the festive season.
He issued a strong warning to criminals, especially those who are involved in cash-in-transit heists.
“The criminals attempted to do that here in Kagiso. We managed to arrest nine suspects with a rifle AK47 and two pistols,” he said.
