Former President, Jacob Zuma has sent his condolences to the family of Nkandla mayor, Mbhekiseni “Bhejane” Biyela.

FORMER President, Jacob Zuma sends his condolences to the family of mayor of Nkandla, Mbhekiseni “Bhejane” Biyela.

Biyela (52) died on Monday, 16 December.

He took the mayoral chain in 2021 under IFP.

Biyela was laid to rest at his home in Mahlayizeni Village in Nkandla on Friday, 20 December.

Although Zuma didn’t attend the funeral, his foundation, JG Zuma Foundation released a statement on Friday, 20 December sending his condolences.

The statement described Biyela as a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the people of Nkandla was unwavering.

“He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the community, embodying the values of service, humility and leadership. His vision and dedication have left an indelible mark on Nkandla and beyond.

“On behalf of the JG Zuma Foundation and the patron, his excellency president Zuma, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Biyela family, the Nkandla Municipality and all who had the privilege of working with and knowing mayor Biyela. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may his family and loved ones find strength and comfort during this difficult time,” read the statement.

Biyela’s funeral was attended by KZN Premier, Thami Ntuli, who described Biyela as a mayor who was active and hard working in bringing service delivery and keeping the municipality stable while he worked for a clean audit.
