A 34-year-old woman appeared at KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court on Thursday, 5 December, for allegedly stabbing her lover to death.

DAN MTSWENI, who went missing, was found dead with a rope around his neck.

Cops have arrested Mtshweni’s girlfriend and charged her with murder.

A 34-year-old woman appeared at KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court on Thursday, 5 December, for allegedly stabbing her lover to death.

She then hid the body, which was later discovered in the grazing field in Tweefontein B2 on Monday, 2 December.

Mpumalanga Police spokesman Brigadier Donald Mdluli said Dan Mtsweni (31) disappeared and was reported missing by his mum at the Tweefontein Police Station on Wednesday, 27 November.

“On the said Monday, a passerby is said to have come across a semi-decomposed body of a male person, wrapped with a blanket as well as a floor carpet.

“This gruesome discovery was then reported to the Police and upon arrival, members observed that the body had visible stab wounds, and a rope was also noticed around his neck,” said Mdluli.

He said an investigation immediately started, and the victim was later identified by his mum as Dan Mtsweni, the man who disappeared some days back.

“As the investigation proceeded, it yielded positive results as it navigated the team of investigators to their suspect, a 34-year-old female partner was arrested on Wednesday, 3 December, and charged with murder,” said Mdluli.

He said the woman appeared at the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court on Thursday, 5 December, and the case was postponed to 18 December for a formal bail application.

As the investigation continues, Mdluli said more charges could be added against the suspect.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned the gruesome murder while commending the team of investigators for the swift response in their investigation, thereby arresting the suspect.

“We are very much concerned about this kind of murder incidents alleged to have been perpetrated by either those that are having some sort of relationship with victims or allegedly committed by their family members.

“There seems to be a moral decay in the society and we call on Faith-Based organisations and Traditional leaders as well as civil society to continue to work together with us to prevent this challenge,” said Mkhwanazi.
