Zizipho Buti has bagged a role on a new show called Soft Life.
ACTRESS Zizipho Buti wants young girls to learn from her new character.
She’s just secured a new role on Showmax’s upcoming series, Soft Life, where she plays Owami Gqoji, a young girl entangled in the world of sex work.
The 29-year-old actress from Gugulethu, Cape Town, spoke to Daily Sun about the show.
“Owami is a varsity dropout from Thembisa. She just wants to take care of her mum and little sister. We’re introduced to her before she joins the Girlfriend Experience, a business for wealthy clients who want to hire girlfriends and get an experience from girls. People will be taken through the decisions she makes to join this.
“Soft Life is about highlighting this glamorous lifestyle that’s seen on social media and showing what’s happened to some girls who’ve worked in the platforms. There’s so much in it. There’s also the relationship she has with her dad, the dynamics, and how it informs her decision,” Zizipho said.
The actress said she knows a lot of women have gone through what Owami went through.

“It’s the reality for so many people. Thinking about this, I see it’s coming out at a perfect time. December is a difficult time when problems come flooding in. Now, it’ll allow a person to reflect on and think about the decision they make.”
Zizipho said she hopes people will learn from the character.
“Every decision you make has consequences, especially if you compromise your values and morals. It’s exactly what’s happening in our lives and communities right now.
“I’m excited to see how people will receive the story. We have such a brilliant cast, the writing is so beautiful, the story written so beautifully, I know people will enjoy it. People are going to laugh and cry because it’s such a deep story. Life is complex but always remain true to yourself. Make choices that align with your morals, values and peace of mind,” she said.
Zizipho, who starred in Generations: The Legacy as Tracy, said she enjoyed being part of the legendary show.
“It was such a great platform, one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve learned so much. As a performer, it was really a big role. I was challenged quite a bit and saw the growth myself. Generations will always be in my heart. I fell in love with the character, she was great,” she said.
