Oupa Moripe, the late Lucas Masterpieces Moripe’s cousin, describes him as a quiet person who enjoyed jokes and laughing.
THE family of the late former footballer, Lucas Masterpieces Moripe (74), is still devastated by his death.
Moripe, an Orlando Pirates and Pretoria Bantu Callies Football Club legend, was sick for a long time.
His cousin, Oupa Moripe, mentioned that Lucas had been wheelchair-bound for almost two years due to age and ill health.
He died on Tuesday, 19 November 2024, at Kalafong Hospital, west of Tshwane.
Fondly known as “Modimo wa Bolo,” Moripe was one of the greatest South African football talents. He was admitted to hospital on Monday, 18 November 2024, around 7pm due to his deteriorating health condition.
Oupa described Moripe as a quiet person who enjoyed jokes and laughing.

“We’ll remember him for his dribbling skills, commitment, and the love for football,” he said.
The family takes pride in his legacy, especially since a stadium in Atteridgeville was named Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in his honour.
Moripe often lamented a lack of talented players in South Africa. He admired former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Zane Moosa for his dribbling skills.
“My cousin appreciated raw and God-given talent,” Oupa said.
The Moripe family thanks everyone for their support and announced that former football legends will organise the memorial service. Dates for the memorial and the funeral will be announced soon.
Moripe also played briefly for the Caroline Hills Football Club in Hong Kong.
The Premier Soccer League has announced a moment of silence in his honour during the Carling Knockout Final and other fixtures over the next two weeks, including the Motsepe Foundation Championship, DStv Diski Challenge, and Betway Premiership.
