Snl24 | Teacher ‘fired’ during imbizo!

A TEACHER is in hot water. 

The man, who is accused of making sexual advances at pupils and using inappropriate sexual language, was told not to report to school on Monday, 25 November.

The teacher from a school in Boksburg was “fired” by Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane during the School Safety Imbizo at Faranani Community Hall in Tsakani, Ekurhuleni on Saturday, 23 November.

The said teacher is being investigated for sexual harassment by the Gauteng Department of Education.

“That teacher must not report to school on Monday. Teachers are seen as role models and should behave as such,” said Chiloane.

The behaviour of the teacher was revealed during the imbizo when participants raised issues that affect the safety of pupils and teachers in Ekurhuleni schools.

Representatives from various organisations, schools and SAPS shared their views during the imbizo, which was the second of four regional School Safety Imbizos to be held in Gauteng this year. 

The purpose was to address critical safety issues impacting high risk schools in Ekurhuleni.

Other issues participants raised were how the removal of security guards from some schools due to budget cuts was going to affect order in schools.

To this, Chiloane said budget cuts are indeed going to affect some high-risk schools.

“We had to do that to keep teachers. No teacher in Gauteng is going to lose their job or have their salary affected. Gauteng needs more teachers because of the increasing population,’ he said.

Chiloane said imbizos are not talk shops, but are held to help the department come up with a working document to be implemented in schools.
