Adel Amrouche, head coach of Tanzania during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations match between Morocco and Tanzania at Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, Cote dIvoire on 17 January 2024

A coach who was previously linked with Kaizer Chiefs has his availability for a PSL move confirmed again as excitement levels in the country are on a high for the season’s resumption following Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In recent seasons, Algerian coach Adel Amrouche has had his name thrown into the mix as Chiefs tried different coaches as part of their restructuring in the quest to improve results on the field and to challenge for trophies.

But nothing concrete came in the way of the 56-year-old UEFA Pro License holder whose most recent role was with the national team of Tanzania from March last year to January this year.

According to sources in the know, an appealing project in the Betway Premiership would lure the mentor to finally fulfil his wish of coaching in Mzansi.

“Adel Amrouche is open to a PSL move but it should be a good project. He has always been keen to come and there was a time he was linked with Kaizer Chiefs, but nothing came out of the reported interest. He is a coach who would emulate what Hugo Broos has achieved with Bafana Bafana to contribute to the PSL,” said the source.

“Hugo Broos has brought a different dimension to our football, and he is proof that sometimes it is important to bring a coach who won’t have favourites when it comes to players and his selections but someone who will select players on merit,” the source added.

“I strongly believe that Adel Amrouche can do a similar job to that being done by Broos in the national team because just like Broos he is also a believer in giving players a chance to show their talent regardless of whether they are popular or not. What Hugo has done with the national team is phenomenal and the whole nation is singing his praises right now, and deservedly so. What he has done is exactly what Adel would do, knowing him and having listened to him speak about his plans for the PSL. He has been following this league and he’s got so much knowledge about it from a distance, and it wouldn’t be difficult for him to adjust. He would help our players to grow because he is a coach who likes good attacking football with players expressing themselves on the field in just the way South African players like to play,” concluded the source.
